The Bali Concept
Designed in Yorkshire. Hand-Made in Bali. Small-Batch Furniture, Lighting and Ceramics by Named Artisans.
The Bali Concept is the work of Nick and Emma — partners in life and the brand — who founded the business after a year-long trip through Southeast Asia left them genuinely struck by what they were seeing in Balinese workshops. Pieces full of character and soul. Pieces with the small variations that come only from being made by hand. Pieces that felt entirely different from the homogenised furniture they were used to seeing back home. They started designing in-house from Yorkshire and producing in small batches with artisan workshops in Bali — many of which they now know personally. Wayan and his two daughters Ni Kadek and Ni Wayan make the larger furniture pieces. Ketut hand-makes the chairs they design in-house. Other named artisans take care of the ceramics and rattan lighting. The brand puts each maker's name and face on its own site — which is, when you think about it, exactly the kind of provenance that should be the standard for handmade furniture.
The range spans four distinct categories. Furniture pieces are hand-carved from sustainable teak and sungkai wood — chairs, tables, sideboards, and the larger statement pieces. Rattan lighting is handwoven by artisans in Seminyak, the part of Bali long known for the craft. The Citra mirror collection brings together traditional rattan weaving with modern geometric shapes. And the ceramics range — plates, mugs, dining pieces — is hand-thrown by artisans whose techniques have been passed down through generations. Everything ships free to the UK. For those who prefer to see what they're buying before they buy it, the brand also runs a showroom at Pool Bank Vintage Interiors on the outskirts of Otley in Yorkshire, open Friday to Monday.
