Repair & Care. Things Worth Keeping.
Because the most sustainable thing in your wardrobe is the thing already in your wardrobe.
The shortest answer to "what should I buy?" is usually "less, but better." The second shortest is "look after the things you already own."
Söstter exists for the brands doing things properly — and that means we care just as much about what happens after the purchase as before it. The best products are designed to last decades. The next best are designed to be repaired. Most of what we sell sits in one of those two camps.
This page is how we think about that.
Looking after fashion
Washing — read the label. Cold water. Less often than you think. Most clothes are over-washed, which damages fibres faster than wear does.
Storage — wooden hangers for shoulders, breathable bags for what's seasonal, a dark cupboard for anything precious. Plastic suffocates fabric.
Ironing — inside out, low heat, on the side that won't show. Steam where you can rather than heat where you can't.
Looking after homeware
Ceramics — soft cloth, no abrasive sponges. Hand-wash anything you'd be sad to break.
Wood — wipe with a damp cloth, oil occasionally if it's untreated. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
Metals — polish brass and copper a few times a year. Silver tarnishes, then comes back to life with a polish cloth. Both are features, not faults.
Looking after jewellery
Cleaning — soft cloth, jewellery-specific cleaner for anything beyond a smudge.
Storage — separate compartments. Tangles ruin chains; chains scratch stones.
Wearing — last on, first off. Perfume, hairspray, sunscreen, and chlorine all shorten jewellery's life.
When something breaks
Most things can be fixed. We work with The Seam — a UK platform connecting you with expert repair specialists for clothing, accessories, and homeware. Tailoring, leather restoration, ceramic mending, jewellery repair. Not us — proper craftspeople.
If you've outgrown something rather than worn it out, Reflaunt lets you resell pre-loved Söstter pieces to a global community of considered shoppers. The piece carries on living. You get store credit. Everyone wins, the planet included.
And finally
A question we ask ourselves before we add a brand to Söstter: would this be worth repairing in ten years?
If the answer is no, it doesn't make the cut.
