Sophie Harpley
Hand-Painted Linen and Wallpaper. Made Entirely in Britain Since 2012.
Sophie Harpley completed her MA in Graphic Arts at Bristol in 2012, specialising in print, and began her career at the Victoria and Albert Museum — which is about as direct a route into understanding decorative design as it is possible to take. She launched her eponymous studio combining painting, illustration and design, working with stockists including the Royal Academy of Arts and building a following through commissions and interiors partnerships. During the pandemic, her hand-painted stationery delivered by post earned features in Vogue and the Financial Times and a collaboration with food writer Rosie Birkett. Her Language of Flowers collection led to a textiles commission with Nina London. She relaunched the brand in 2022 with a renewed focus on what she does best: printed linens and wallpapers, hand-painted in her Oxfordshire studio and made entirely in Britain using family-run manufacturers she has worked with since the beginning.
Every fabric and wallpaper is produced using natural and biodegradable materials — pure linen, cotton and FSC-certified wallpapers from replenished forests, printed with non-toxic inks using low-waste digital methods that preserve the rich colour of Sophie's original hand-painted artwork with a fading resistance that makes these genuinely modern heirlooms. The Oxford Meadow print draws on the snakeshead fritillary growing wild in Oxfordshire meadows alongside bluebells, primroses and narcissi. The broader range covers cushions, homeware and curtain fabrics — available made-to-measure through a network of independent curtain makers Sophie has personally worked with or recommended across the UK. This is design rooted in place, made by hand, and built to last.
