BikyBag
Properly Cheerful European Bicycle Panniers, in Rather a Lot of Colours.
BikyBag is a small European bicycle pannier brand designed and handmade by people who are, in their own properly endearing words, "bicycle enthusiasts" — which is to say, the kind of people who have spent rather a lot of time on bicycles working out exactly what makes a properly good bag and what makes a disappointing one. The signature material is tarpaulin — robust, flexible, and genuinely waterproof — translated into a range of bright solid colours and the occasional rather lovely floral print. The whole proposition is the sensible one in a category dominated by joyless black: that the bag carrying one's groceries home from the farmers' market needn't, in fact, look quite so dour about doing it.
The hero is the Classic CW — a 26-litre double pannier (13 litres per side, balanced perfectly across the rear rack), made from waterproof tarpaulin both inside and out, with lid side flaps for additional weather sealing, reflective strips for nighttime visibility, two buckle straps on top and two hook-and-loop fasteners below for tool-free fitting to most racks. The Model M and Model T variants add a clever cut-out corner that prevents one's heel catching the bag mid-pedal — the small considered detail that betrays a properly thought-through design. Each pannier carries up to 5kg (so 10kg total), the pair weighs roughly a kilogram, and the lot wipes clean with a damp cloth. Properly built, properly cheerful, and rather rare in a category that has otherwise concluded everyone wants their bike bag to look like a Soviet briefcase.
