Reclaimed Timber. Hand Built. One Of One.

MooBoo Home was founded in 2014 by Andy and Nic Bouchard, who started out making lighting from reclaimed wood under a gazebo in their London flat. Eleven years on, they work from a craft studio in the Stable Yard at Cockington Country Park, Devon, hand-building chandeliers, floor lamps and clocks from wind-fallen branches and historic salvage. The clocks are made from oak whiskey-barrel lids — the kind that lived a previous life in a distillery somewhere. Because the timber is what it is — old, fallen, weathered — no two pieces MooBoo makes are alike, and no two ever could be.

Their work has, more than once, ended up on Grand Designs. The floor lamps are called Amélie, Charlotte, Vivienne and Margot — exactly the right register for a small family lighting outfit in Devon. The wooden beam chandeliers throw a warm, low light through the gaps in the timber. The clocks tick away on what used to be the top of a whiskey barrel. These are pieces that earn their place in a room rather than fill it — and that quietly transform the slightly awkward corner of a hallway, or the bit of the kitchen that needs warming up.
