Benson & Clegg
The Accessories That Dressed James Bond. You Can Buy Them on Jermyn Street.
In 1937, Harry Benson and Thomas Clegg opened a small tailors in Piccadilly Arcade, Jermyn Street, London — one of the most quietly distinguished addresses in the world — and set about making the finest British gentlemen's accessories money could buy. Thirty-six years later, the James Bond production team came knocking. In 1973, Roger Moore wore a Benson & Clegg Royal Navy tie in Live and Let Die. A relationship was born that lasted nearly fifty years — through Roger Moore, through Q's quietly impeccable wardrobe, all the way to Daniel Craig wearing a Benson & Clegg rhodium tie slide in No Time To Die. The 'James' tie slide, worn by Bond in his final outing, is exclusive to Benson & Clegg. You can buy it online, or better still, you can walk into the shop and buy it in person.
Because the shop is still there. At 9 Piccadilly Arcade, Jermyn Street, London — a tall, gloriously packed boutique where the walls are lined with ties, the drawers are full of blazer buttons handmade in Birmingham's jewellery quarter, and the cufflinks range from classically restrained to properly joyful. By Royal Appointment since 1944 — originally to King George VI — the brand holds over 250 different striped and motif ties representing clubs, regiments, universities and institutions, and produces every blazer button exclusively in the UK. It also dressed Peaky Blinders, The Crown, Poirot and Dracula, for those for whom Bond is not quite sufficient qualification.
