Bypoppyuk is a Worcestershire studio making handmade lampshades and cushions to order — every single one made by hand, from fabrics sourced within the UK, in a range broad enough to cover most rooms and specific enough to cover most tastes. Cone, cylinder, drum, coolie, empire and double-sided styles. Plain cottons, linens and velvets. Patterned fabrics including William Morris prints and Wonderland paper interiors that make the inside of the shade as considered as the outside. Extra tall cylinders for floor lamps and large statement pendants. Bespoke orders using your own fabric if nothing in the existing range quite fits. Fabric samples sent free on request, because getting the colour right in a room is the whole point and nobody should be asked to guess.
The double-sided shades are the range's most distinctive offering — velvet exteriors lined with contrasting cotton or patterned paper, giving the lit shade a character the unlit one only hints at. The studio was awarded Luxury Lampshade Specialist of the Year 2024 at the Midlands Enterprise Awards, and a pair of shades has featured in The Observer. Processing time is one to two weeks from order; shipping goes to the UK, USA and Australia. This is the kind of thing that gets noticed in a room, which is precisely what a lampshade is supposed to do.
