Porter Hill Tea Company began with a trip. Co-founder Matt Porter spent time tasting teas at the roadside in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia — brewed by local families at the side of the plantation — and never quite forgot it. A decade in children's services followed, but the memory stayed. In 2022 he and co-founder Tim Hill opened their shop in Huddersfield's UK Byram Arcade, a stunning Victorian building dating back to 1881, and set about doing the thing properly.

The focus is flavour, sustainability and wellbeing — no gimmicks, no compromises, and absolutely no dust or filler. Porter Hill stocks 60 to 70 ethically sourced loose leaf teas from Africa, India, Sri Lanka, China and Japan, and blends 20 to 30 more in-house. From delicate Darjeeling and high-grown Ceylon to bold chai and smoky Lapsang Souchong, every blend is hand-packed in Yorkshire, tested for taste and aroma, and sent out in eco-friendly letterbox-sized packaging with resealable pouches that keep things fresher for considerably longer than a standard teabag.
